He studied in Aalborg from 1890 to 1896. That year he became assistant at the Museum of Minerals, and in 1904 associate professor of geology and mineralogy at the Polyteknisk Læreanstalt in Copenhagen (Denmark). After Niels Viggo Ussing passed away in 1912, he was appointed professor of mineralogy at the University of Copenhagen and Director of the Museum of Minerals, until his retirement in 1942.\r\n\r\nThe description of the minerals of Greenland, including several new ones, was an important part of his scientific work. His magnum opus is \u003Cem>Mineralogia groenlandica\u003C\u002Fem>, published in 1905. An extended and updated edition of this work, entitled \"The Mineralogy of Greenland\", was published in English in 1953.
