Not to be confused with Berthierine.","Named in 1827 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger in honor of Pierre Berthier (3 July 1782, Nemours, Seine-et-Marne, France – 24 August 1861, Paris, France), French chemist and mineralogist at the École des Mines, and also Inspector of Mines during his career. He named a number of species, including \u003Cm>chamosite\u003C\u002Fm>, \u003Cm>franklinite\u003C\u002Fm>, \u003Cm>halloysite\u003C\u002Fm>, and \u003Cm>nontronite\u003C\u002Fm>. He is well-known for his study of \u003Cm>bauxite\u003C\u002Fm>.
