It has the chemical formula CaMgSi2O6 - calcium magnesium silicate.  The intensely green colored material in this rock is a variety called chromian diopside, Ca(Mg,Cr)Si2O6 - calcium magnesium chromium silicate.  I'm not sure what the pitch black colored material is, but it appears to be non-chromium-bearing pyroxene.  If so, the rock itself is a pyroxenite, a type of ultramafic, intrusive igneous rock.\n\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>This gorgeous material comes from a Norwegian quarry that targets olivine-rich peridotites.
