Joachim Ernst Esche (born 1951), of Seelbach, Germany, who first found the mineral. He studied process engineering (majoring in nuclear and biomedical engineering) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Until his retirement, he worked for various companies as a software and systems engineer. His interest in the minerals of Namibia began in 1978 during a several months long practical as a student in Windhoek, and developed into a deep enthusiasm for the mineralogy of the Aris quarries (including microphotography of his specimens).
