Morphology

Crystals are variable in habit from blocky to spear-shaped and platy.

Type-locality form

Hughesite occurs as crystalline druses on the sandstone walls, usually in organic-carbon-rich zones, of mine workings and on fracture surfaces at the Sunday mine, Gypsum Valley, San Miguel County, Slick Rock District, Colorado, USA.
